Chef Stephen Montague

Rum & Rhythm Festival

Stephen Montague

A graduate of the Culinary Arts (1973) and also completed an advance culinary course in 1974.

Chef Stephen began his career in this industry as a chef at the Rivera Hotel in Barbados. Subsequently he had the opportunity to work for the Trust House Fort hotel and restaurant chain in England. He enjoyed working in the hotel and restaurant business and went on to work with the Marriot chain of hotels. After some time, he was given the opportunity to work as a chef, on board a number of ships. Accordingly, he traveled and worked in many countries around the world such as Venezuela, Aruba, Columbia, Greece, Germany, and Pakistan. This invaluable experience of working abroad allowed him to further expand his culinary expertise and innovative techniques. He was also able to interact with people from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Which lead to his work as a butler for celebrities such as Paul McCartney, musician and writer and Michael (actor) and Shakera Caine.

Upon his return to Canada, he worked as the butler for Rudy Sagel, owner of Bell-tronics and several other companies around the world. Shortly there after, he assumed a chef position under the employment of the Bitiove Corporation at Pearson International. Although his experience with the Bitiove Corporation offered some interesting opportunities, he decided to expand his knowledge and expertise by getting involved in setting up and opening restaurants such as the Naked Turtle and JJ mugs.

After taking a short break, he returned to the restaurant industry as the Executive Chef at the Best Western Hotel and was there for over 8 years. Afterward, Chef Stephen joined the private yacht club industry as executive chef, for the past 7 years.

To this day, he continues to be open to new opportunities and experiences that will further enhance his skill set and creative culinary interests.
