Caribbean celebrity chefs, visiting from some of the region’s finest hotels and restaurants, will be in Toronto to spice up the city with succulent regional flavours as part of Canada’s inaugural Caribbean Week, Sept. 26 – 30, 2007.
Starting September 26, chefs from Barbados, Bahamas, Antigua & Barbuda and Turks & Caicos will be demonstrating mouthwatering cooking techniques at locales throughout the city including Yonge-Dundas Square, the Toronto Travel Show and participating LCBO locations.
The week of events and entertainment has been arranged by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) in conjunction with the Caribbean Hotel Association, as a way to help Canadians celebrate the sights, sounds, colours, and vibrant culture of the Caribbean.
“All through Caribbean Week we will showcase the colourful, flavourful and aromatic dishes for which our region is known,” said Hugh Riley, the CTO’s director of marketing, The Americas. “Many people may not be aware of the variety of culinary styles and influences we offer, therefore, this week will be an excellent opportunity to sample authentic Caribbean cooking and hopefully whet the appetite for a visit to experience it more fully in our tropical locales.”
Authentic Caribbean cuisine will be prepared by:
- Chef Peter Edey (Barbados)
- Chef Christopher Walters (Turks & Caicos Islands)
- Chef Ana Isabel Utrera (Cuba)
- Chef Pedro Quintanilla (Cuba)
- Chef Jeremiah Nathaniel (Antigua & Barbuda)
