Multi-National Performing Artists to Enliven Toronto’s Inaugural Caribbean Week, Sept. 26, 2007 at Yonge-Dundas Square

Sept 14th, 2007 – Toronto, Canada

An eclectic roster of international talent will provide free entertainment in the heart of downtown Toronto to help kick off the first-ever Caribbean Week celebration, Wednesday, Sept. 26 in Yonge-Dundas Square.

The Caribbean Fair in Yonge-Dundas Square officially kicks off Canada’s inaugural Caribbean Week with a potpourri of internationally acclaimed music artists, among them Juno and Grammy Award winners, representing multiple Caribbean destinations.

The week of events and entertainment, running through Sunday, Sept. 30, has been arranged by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) in conjunction with the Caribbean Hotel Association, as a way to help Canadians celebrate the sights, sounds, colours, and vibrant culture of the Caribbean.

“While many facets of the Caribbean culture will be presented throughout the week, it’s the music that best represents the spirit and soul of the Caribbean people,” said Hugh Riley, the CTO’s director of marketing, The Americas. “Music has emerged as the heartbeat of the region and during Caribbean Week our friends in Canada will have the chance to see a truly distinctive array of performances that represent a few of the different styles of entertainment from our part of the world.”

The diverse and award-winning performers include:

  • Pedrito Calvo and Hilario Durán (Cuba)
  • The Royal Turks & Caicos Islands Police Force Combo Band (Turks & Caicos)
  • Jamesy P. (St Vincent & the Grenadines)
  • Bomani (St Vincent & the Grenadines)
  • Roland Prince Quartet (Antigua & Barbuda)
  • Royal Bahamas Police Force ‘Pop’ Band (Bahamas)
  • Christopher Laroche a.k.a. Freedom (Haiti)
  • Jerry Jerome and the Cardells featuring Fresh Entertainment (Toronto)

The morning portion of Caribbean Fair will be hosted by FLOW 93.5 radio personalities Dr. Jay and Spex and Trinidad & Tobago’s King Cosmos will host the afternoon portion.

This lively affair is the first among a series of fascinating events during Caribbean Week highlighting the Caribbean vacation experience, food and entertainment.

The Caribbean Fair takes place at the south-east corner of the Yonge and Dundas intersection. Entertainment starts at 8:00 a.m. and finishes at 8:00 p.m. This event is free for the public.
