The sweet flavour of rum and the pulsating beat of island music – two elements of the Caribbean experience that have become synonymous with the region – will be on full display in Toronto during the inaugural Rum & Rhythm Festival, Friday, September 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel. Tickets are now on sale for the highly anticipated event, the climax of Caribbean Week Toronto 2008 (www.caribbeanweek.ca).
A variety of the Caribbean’s award-winning rums will be available for tasting in addition to rum cocktails served up by the region’s top mixologists. The Festival will also feature tantalizing cuisine served by some of the Caribbean’s most celebrated chefs, vibrant musical performances and a silent auction including “one of a kind” vacations to the Caribbean. Special offers for holidays to the Caribbean will be available.
“The Rum & Rhythm Festival is arguably the most anticipated event during Caribbean Week,” said Hugh Riley, interim secretary general of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) and co-chief operating officer for the Caribbean Tourism Development Company (CTDC). “It’s an authentic celebration of all things Caribbean. Guests can taste rums imported directly from the region and sample fare from our visiting celebrity chefs while swaying to the beats of our reggae, salsa, soca and compass music.”
Adults over the age of 19 are allowed entrance to the Festival. Tickets are available for $65 per person and can be purchased online at Ticketweb.com and www.caribbeanweek.ca or by calling (888) 222-6608. Admission includes six rum samples and Caribbean food tastings.
Caribbean Week Toronto 2008, held September 24-26, brings together the most influential policy makers, financial leaders, marketing professionals and tourism industry officials to interact and discuss both tourism and investment opportunities in the region. It also serves to provide a taste of the region to consumers to inspire travel and showcase its diversity. In addition to the Rum & Rhythm Festival, a variety of distinctive events highlighting the Caribbean experience will take place including the Caribbean Travel Conference, a Media Marketplace & Caribbean Awards Luncheon and Caribbean Fair at Dundas Square.
